William John Caparne (1855-1940)
Auctions: Caparne Lots - Channel Islands Auctions, Guernsey - 2 June 2012
Saigne Bay, Sark
This watercolour has an interesting history and provenance. This painting was bought from Caparne's sister during World War II in 1942, by a German Soldier, Sergeant Hugo Sach. It was taken back to Germany with him. After the War, Hugo Sach returned the painting to a Guernsey resident. It then travelled to America, and later was returned to Guernsey once again.
West Coast, Guernsey
